Wild Remembered Hills
Lofty hills and shattered stone
Granite hearts stand alone,
Mantled with their cloak of peat,
Worn down by time, it’s peaks and sky to meet.
Rushing streams cascading down,
That cuts the rocks with roaring sound.
Then high above the swirling cloud,
Against the stinging wind, the lonesome curlew cries aloud.
Above the dark and silent deep,
The sparkling, dancing diamonds leap,
Breaking waves on gravel shores,
Reflect the forest and natures laws.
Bracken clad and naked hill, topped with virgin untrod snow,
Lifts the spirits, liberates the mind, opens the eyes both high and low.
Remember then the silent glade, the fertile valley lit with sun,
How brief our lives, how aged the hills,
Must make us humble, when our lives are run.
