GEOCACHING

Updated:

What on earth is Geocaching you might ask and why is it on this web site?

Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equiped with GPS devices

It is ideally suited to ramblers as many of the geocaches are hidden in places off the beaten track, i.e. where ramblers walk!!

The geocache is the treasure, which is normally a small container hidden, but not buried,
and referenced on a dedicated web site with it's location co-ordinates.

Currently there are over 1.2 million geocaches hidden worldwide and there are probably several within a mile of your own home!

There are over 1100 geocaches within a 15 mile radius of Crewe!

Mike Parr and myself got involved in this 'sport' this year and we found two caches on the recent 'A' walk at Hayfield
in fact the first cache we found was Mike's first find - see below!

This is a typical cache which I found on the outskirts of Weston

So if you wonder what some of us are doing scrabbling under rocks or looking in bushes, you'll know we are Geocaching!

For further information, look at the
Geocaching dedicated web site

or
click here download a short guide to Geocaching from the C&N Ramblers web site.

You can see how I'm getting on finding caches in the panel below
by the way WISTONIAN is my Geocacher identity!

If you think Geocaching is not for you, but you like spotting things, why not try Waymarking.
Access an information page on Waymarking from the side menu.
